Our Story

Meet Valor

Our Why…

I stumbled upon a picture and brief description of this horse…an extremely malnourished, underweight, clearly abused stallion. In his eyes and actions others saw aggressiveness and “just mean”… I saw his fear, he was terrified and trusted no one! He needed a “second chance”, and I was going to be sure he got it! I believe everyone deserves a “second chance”. With the support of my family, I drove the 2400 miles, round trip to Louisiana to bring him home!
Valor (this is the name he came with, I kept it because it defines him perfectly!) has been with me since spring of 2022. I am patient with him in his training because clearly he had a traumatic past and time and love is what I feel he needs. He’s still learning to trust and is getting pretty good at using his Heart.
You can’t look at a horse and tell if it has trust issues, been through trauma or is well trained, etc. No one knows a horses full story, except that horse. I believe the same is true for people. We all have a story and a lot of it is chapters others know nothing of. We all deserve a “second chance”.
I was a “foster kid” for about 5 years of my young childhood. In and out of shelters, group homes and foster families. I endured more things as a child (abuse, neglect, uncertainty, etc) than anyone, much less a child, should have to endure.
But, I was finally adopted and got a “second chance”.
Horses became a part of my life in foster care and I was thrilled to have them around. You can tell all your secrets to a horse and won’t get any judgement in return. Horses are very intuitive and just their presence alone was healing for my little girl heart. As an adult, horses are still as therapeutic for me as they ever were. Through HEART OF VALOR, my desire is to help anyone that wants to experience the benefits of connecting with a horse.
At HEART OF VALOR we help horses help humans. Several of our horses are rescues, We have helped them and now they are helping us help others!
